Pentacle: it is an ancient magical sign consisting of a five-pointed star drawn with one continuous line. For the Pythagoreans it was a symbol of health and knowledge. The Gnostics depicted it on Abraxas cameos.     In the Middle Ages it was a common sign to ward off demonic powers and female night spirits, among others.     As a self-contained form, it may represent Christ as the Alpha and Omega; as a five-pointed form, it may signify the five wounds of Christ.     Recently, the pentacle has been most commonly identified with Wicca (an Earth based belief system) and other pagan faiths. In most cases when associated with Wicca the pentacle is used to represent the four classical elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water the fifth and topmost point signifying the Spirit.     Peter Stone carries a variety of jewelry depicting Pentacle designs.
