November 23, 2009--Peter Stone is excited to unveil the Danu Collection, an extensive line of striking pieces that grew out of a collaboration with Irish artist Sinead Butler. Inspired in part by Irish customs and traditions in folklore, particularly the legends surrounding the Goddess Danu, mother of the fairies, the collection is a blended flavor of ancient Celtic culture and modern sophistication. Adorned with her lithe figure and instilled with the beauty and power of the Goddess, many of these iconic designs invoke the eternal grace of Danu’s favor. The Danu line includes a collection of jewelry intended for children, bringing Irish folklore to life in series of playful yet eloquent designs.
Bio of a Goddess
In Celtic legends, the Goddess Danu was revered as the Mother Goddess, prolific and powerful. As the mother of all other Irish gods and goddesses, she is the most ancient of all deities, and her influence was extensive, encompassing rivers, wells, magic, prosperity, fertility, and wisdom. She was a moon goddess, yet was also known as a goddess of war and strife, as well. As with many Celtic gods and Goddesses, Danu was a balance of the positive and the negative.
She was the legendary mother of the Tuatha De Dannan, a race of people who, according to myth, were driven underground by foreign invaders and took up residence in the Sidhe mounds. The Tuatha De Danann (literal translation: Children of Dana) are said to be the ancestors of the mischievous fairy folk of modern legend.
The name Danu is closely linked to Dana; in Irish, “Danu” means “flowing water;” in Sanskrit, an earlier language, “Dana” represents the “waters of heaven.” Considering the origin of her name, and the fact that she was associated with rivers and wells, it’s unsurprising that she has been linked to the rivers Danube and Don. In addition to earthly tributes, it seems there is also a mountain on the face of Venus that has been given the name “Danu,” in honor of the great goddess.
Danu in Silver
In addition to the inspiration of the Goddess Danu, the line also pays tribute to classical Celtic elements by incorporating Celtic crosses, knotwork variations, and spiral designs into each piece. Fans of Celtic jewelry will be familiar with the motifs, but many will be surprised at the elegance with which they were wrought. Graceful, chic and fluid, this collection reinvents Celtic. Danu would be proud.
The world’s economy is shrinking but Peter Stone is expanding!
June 17, 2009-- Peter Stone announced today he has no intention of scaling back his business because of the economy and is rolling full steam ahead. Stone, the international jeweller who’s made quite a name for himself due to the diversity of his lines and the celebrity artists he designs and manufactures for, has added new staff, signed new artists and is launching several new lines.
In the USA, Stone’s put in place an explosive marketing/branding team who is aggressively pursuing strategic alliances all over the globe.
Stone’s newest line “NEBULA…The Start of Something Beautiful” is the big surprise of Showcase Ireland. Stone says he created “NEBULA” as a specific and deliberate response to the economic times. Known for his stunning Sterling Silver jewellery, Stone’s created a patented new metal blend which is very much like Pewter yet has the same highly polished look of Sterling but at one third the price point of Silver. Because the launch of this product was so incredibly well received at the enormous America’s Mart trade show in Atlanta, Georgia, Stone’s manufacturing plant in Thailand is working hard on re-casting many of his magnificent designs in the new metal.
Having built much of his success on niche markets like Celtic, Fairy, Dragon and Fantasy jewelry, Stone is increasing the types of niche communities the company will now serve.
Always an innovator, never an imitator, Stone is launching an impressive Equestrian line from the Stone Horse Collection and the elegant High Street Line with 18k gold on Sterling Silver.
One of the first new artists Stone inked a deal with in this first quarter of the year is Sinead Bulter.
