The one thing that grounds Mickie Mueller’s breathtaking magickal paintings is the vivid natural backdrop—so lifelike it seems like it might begin to grow past the frame and into your living space. Combining a hearty enthusiasm for the magick of life and the tender respect of a true nature lover, Mickie Mueller, fantasy artiste extraordinaire, breathes life into her creations and ties them solidly to the natural world in which we live.
Lucky for us, the spark that infuses Mickie’s art translates beautifully into sterling silver. Peter Stone painstakingly captures the amazing fantasy creations in the Mickie Mueller collection, so that fans can enjoy her art from a whole new perspective.
More about Mickie
In order to fully appreciate all the aspects of Mickie’s work, you have to know that in addition to “artiste,” Mickie also claims several titles in the Wiccan and Reiki arenas… like Co-High Priestess, ordained Pagan Minister and Reiki healing master/teacher. All of these elements combine to infuse her art with a magickal-earth flavor that is uniquely hers.
Art and Magick and Reiki
Mickie weaves together the many elements of her spirituality in a flawless dance that blends each with the other. Exploring all three themes at once allows Mickie to create art that is both beautiful and spiritual. Her paints are infused with carefully chosen herbs , enhancing her connection to the divine and making each painting a showcase of magic. The Reiki energy that fills her studio becomes a part of each design, as well, at the most fundamental level.
One of the innovative art techniques that she uses to create the Mickie Mueller “feel,” is a layering of watercolor and colored pencil. In this way, she blends the softened background shades with sharp lines and vivid detail. Interconnection at its best.
The world of Mickie Mueller is one of loam and forest and stone, of crystal clear air and sparkling stars. It is a world that speaks deeply to the spiritualist, whispering of purity and light, enchantment and natural magick. Though the subjects of each painting are arresting, the backgrounds are just as captivating.
Mickie, herself, says: “A theme that keeps coming up always is nature, specifically trees. They’ve spoken to me since childhood and they seem to have a way of working their way into most of what I do. Nature and the environment is very important to me, and I find that trees are the voice of that movement, they carry messages to those who will listen.”
Poised on these breathtaking backdrops are creations of fantasy that come alive with detail and clarity (thanks to those wickedly sharp colored pencils!). Mickie has been incorporating fantasy into her art for as long as she can remember—in art class, her exercises in perspective always featured dragon-riders charging through the streets of her cities. Her work with CD art and DC comics merely fuelled her desire to paint fantasy on her own—and we’re so glad it did!
On subject matter, Mickie is eloquent: “I love researching the legends of Goddesses, fairies, nature spirits, folklore and history…. I feel these themes are a part of us all on a deeper level, so when I have an opportunity to reach into that realm and bring something back, it’s an honor and I feel that I have a certain responsibility to do it with respect to these powerful entities.”
A Simple Magic
Mickie’s transition from art to jewelry design was a natural outgrowth of her inherent passion for jewelry. Originally using completed paintings as models for the designs (like The Triple Godess, one of her favorites), she’s recently reversed the process—creating the jewelry first, and then weaving the image into a world of its own on canvas, which, she confides, “allows me to let my muse really play.”
Her description of jewelry as a primal purpose is completely in sync with the Peter Stone jewelry philosophy. She says, “Each piece has a specific energy and purpose, and when we wear it on our bodies, that power can create positive effects on our spirit throughout the day. Each time we see it, or touch it, through our awareness we are reminded of the blessings or goals that the jewelry piece represents to us. It is the most perfect and simple magic.”
And for those of you who are just dying to find out what Mickie’s favorite piece is… we got the scoop! The Wiccan Tree of Life Pendant holds the title, and Mickie cherishes it for its deep spiritual message: “As above, so below, as within, so without.” Vying for favor is the Triple Goddess, mentioned above. Mickie loves the healing, protective energy it radiates and wears it often on her “days off.”
On Peter Stone
Mickie’s comments about working with Peter Stone need no elaboration: “Working with Peter Stone has been such a great experience. Peter Stones faithful interpretation of my designs into jewelry is so amazing, I was so pleased by the detail and accuracy that they put into it, that I feel the jewelry is really a great showcase for the art it was based on. Each piece that I held in my hand contained such great energy, a genuine mark of a company like Peter Stone. I consider it an honor to be involved with them.”
Why, thank you, Mickie! We think you’re amazing, too!
Mickie is also excited about the patented new semi-precious metal alloy developed by Peter Stone, Nebula! She says: “I think it’s facinating especially after I looked up the magical correspondences of the metals used to make it. I think you’re brilliant for coming up with it… [it’s] an affordable and very magical alternative to silver!”
And Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow?
Mickie’s future is shaping up to be as prolific and exciting as her past. In addition to a line of statuary, she’s also currently in production on her third divination deck: The Voice of the Trees, for which she was author, illustrator, and designer. Expected to be available in 2011, this newest deck was the inspiration for some beautiful new Peter Stone jewelry pieces, as well.
We can’t tell you what the designs are… it’s a secret… but we promise to offer the new Mickie Mueller pieces in the spring catalog, so check in soon to be the first to get one of Mickie’s exclusive new designs!
